Archive News - August 2005

27th August -  Black Swan flew over, 233 Canada Geese over, 11 Greylag Geese over, 123 Jackdaws, 234 Rooks, 197 Wood Pigeons and 92 Greenfinches from SW roost, but 51 others noted Still 1 Willow Warbler and at least 2 Blackcaps, Cormorant flew over (Ed Wilson).

22nd August - 2 Ravens overhead, Common Sandpiper, Kingfisher, juvenile Little Grebe and the Great Crested Grebes in the NW area have 3 juveniles, Reed Warbler, 11 Chiffchaffs (7 of which could be seen at the same time in a whole variety of plumages to study!) and just 3 Willow Warblers and a Whitethroat. 92 Greenfinch from the roost, 179 Canada Geese flew E with 11 Greylag Geese (Ed Wilson).

15th August - Yellow Wagtail heard, probable Sand Martin over, 234 Greenfinches from roost, 117 Rooks and 276 Jackdaws, 131 Wood Pigeons, 177 Canada Geese flew E, 26 Pied Wagtails, Kingfisher, Jay and just 1 Reed Warbler but reasonable numbers of Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers (Ed Wilson).

10th August - 5 Arctic Terns flew through, Great Crested Grebe, 306 Greenfinches from roost, 218 Canada Geese flew E, 48 Pied Wagtails seen and heard flying over, juveniles of Bullfinch, Garden Warbler and at least 3 Reed Warbler plus Willow Tits (Ed Wilson).

8th August - Great Crested Grebes with small juvenile, two different parties of Willow Tits around the lake and another in the bushes to the east; Lesser Whitethroat heard; good-sized tit and warbler party on N shore with at least 5 Chiffchaffs, 4 Willow Warblers and juvenile Blackcaps and Garden Warbler; 291 Greenfinches from roost; 211 Rooks, and 348 Jackdaws. 110 Wood Pigeons noted; 212 Canada Geese flew E, Coot numbers increased again, 5 Ruddy Ducks, 4 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Sand Martin, Goldcrest around the lake; party of at least 15 Pied Wagtails on the grass in the Ricoh factory (Ed Wilson).

2nd August - 4 Common Tern, Yellow Wagtail flew over, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 parties of Long-tailed Tits, Willow Tits, Garden Warbler, Buzzard low over; flock of 150+ Starlings on the wires again; 305 Greenfinches from roost; 344 Rooks, but only 77 Jackdaws! 184 Wood Pigeons, 153 Canada Geese flew E (Ed Wilson).
