Saturday, 28th

At the lake and the Flash this morning but very few gulls around: c.500 seen moving W to the N (from Aqualate?), but all went over

At 06:45 adult Common Gull on the lake: gone by 07:00. Less 'Common' than white-winged gulls at the moment

Otherwise 6 Ravens over the lake; and John Isherwood had splendid male Stonechat in Woodhouse Lane to the E

Friday, 27th

- 16:45 - 16:55 A 1st year Glaucous Gull this evening. A big, bulky bird that looked very different from the one there earlier in the week. Flew off towards Belvide or Aqualate

Tried both The Flash and the lake this evening - need the Kumlien's, but no joy. But yet again there were many more gulls at The Flash than the lake, the latter mainly Black-headed Gulls

So Iceland and Glaucous on the same day here for me! Got a few record shots of both flying birds, but nothing of web-site quality

(Ed Wilson)

- At 08:00 an Iceland Gull was on the SW grass at the lake this morning looking stunning in the sun

Before I could get close-enough to get any detail a dog-walker flushed all the gulls down the other end

I lurked deep in the hut in the hope that they might return and they started to do so and I got great views against the sun of the flying bird

Then something (could not see from inside the hut) put all the gulls, Tufted Duck and Pochard up at 08:15 and while the Iceland Gull did not leave immediately it went off low to the W at 08:20

- An immature flew W over this morning at 08:15.

- There were 2 Curlew flying around between 07:00 and 07:15 and then presumably the same two at 07:45. With no resident Swans small groups of different birds appear and disappear; this morning 2 of those that flew in started displaying

Tuesday, 24th

- 1st winter Glaucous Gull seen at the Lake this evening. Watched for only about 5 mins at 1645 before it departed eastwards. Definitely different bird to that seen at Flash yesterday. Paler, more white in wings

(John Isherwood)

- also a 2nd-winter Iceland Gull there (16:15)

(Observer Unknown - reported on Birdguides)

- Had an hour here at lunchtime (too cold & windy to stick it longer!!) Sadly, no white-winger' s today, with the only bird of note a pristine ad. Yellow-legged Gull!!

Any going, well worth a good scan amongst the Black-headed Gulls too, there was easily 600+ BH Gull on the lake today (with more arriving). I was hoping for a Med. or Little Gull to float in... (or better still, how about a Franklin's or a Bonaparte's! !?)

No sign of the 1st w. Caspian that roosted at Belvide last night!

(Jason Buckley)

- A juvenile Glaucous Gull seen again early afternoon at 12:25
