Priorslee Lake - additional Great Crested Grebes seem to have moved on: only 1 juvenile?, 8 Cormorants: party of 7 in the distance; also 1 immature in the lake for a while, Mallard duckling hanging in there, 3 juvenile Coots from separate broods, returning Common Sandpiper - perhaps the bird flushed earlier at The Flash, 3 Kestrels suggests successful breeding nearby, **** first Common Tern of the year.
first juvenile Wood Pigeon of the year seen, 18 Swifts seen - all passing to the W soon after dawn very large party of Long-tailed Tits, mixed party of 208 corvids was the first large group of the season, House Sparrows heard - first since deep mid-winter and
also 4 species of butterfly: Small Tortoiseshell, Green-veined White, Meadow Brown & Ringlet, Common Blue Damselfly again micro moth Celypha lacunana logged

The Flash - additional Great Crested Grebes seem to have moved on, 46 Greylag and 260 Canada Geese a high count, 51 Mallards - it seems all but one of the juveniles are now able to be sexed and counted as adults, 14 Tufted Ducks - 12 drakes again, first Common Sandpiper of the year for here (and first returning bird),
juvenile Wood Pigeon here too, one of the Chiffchaffs giving the strange broken 'double-song' that I have noted at the lake for over 5 years (though not this year either there or here previously), Willow Warbler stuttering to sing again

between the lake and The Flash
Heron in the lower pool, no Moorhens seen / heard at either pool and Willow Tits by the tunnel (Ed Wilson)

Tuesday, 28th

Priorslee Lake - more Cormorants over, now 8 Great Crested Grebes, but some flying about, just 1 Mallard duckling today, but that seemed to be a new bird, 2 juvenile Coots - neither was the one seen yesterday, first juvenile Black-headed Gull of the year flew, though
new Great Tit suggested 2nd brood, but also new Blue Tit, not normally double-brooded: replacement broods? and Common Blue Damselflies

in the lanes to the east of the Lake - Red-legged Partridges heard, rather few Whitethroats, Chiffchaffs seemed to be everywhere, more juvenile Goldfinches, good party of Linnets (12) including juveniles and lots of flowers (Ed Wilson)

Monday, 27th

Priorslee Lake - lots of Great Crested Grebes - 2 + 2 apparently, but 4 more adults as 1 pair and 2 singles, Swans doing well - still 2 + 5, 2 quite large Mallard ducklings, only 1 extant juvenile Coot apparently, 3 Mistle Thrushes together - start of autumn!, Lesser Whitethroat in song again other warbler counts of singing males - 4 Reed Warblers; 11 Blackcaps; 6 Chiffchaffs: no Willow Warbler and first Ringlet of the year first Brimstone and flying Burnet moths of the year but most moths un-ID-ed inside the lamps!

The Flash - lots of Great Crested Grebes here as well - the 2 + 2 joined by 2 x 2, at least, Swans doing well - still 2 + 6, lots of geese - 45 Greylags and 237 Canadas, fewer Mallards, high count of Tufted Ducks - 15, all adults, with 12 drakes, 10 juvenile Coots from 6 broods, two of the broods at the same nest with juveniles helping - I knew Moorhens did, also Song Thrush still in song, no Reed Warbler - and no Willow Warbler either (Ed Wilson)
