Golden Plover - 140 directly over the Lake. Excellent views.

Monday, 12th

Quick visit to Priorslee Lake this frosty morning: off on my travels to darkest Africa later today
- drake Gadwall still present
- drake Shoveler still present
- 2 Water Rails calling in NW area again
- c.50 Lapwings over
- c.150 Golden Plover to far NE again
- rather few gulls and nothing interesting
- with the hawthorns frosted the Redwings seemed to have gone elsewhere:
just 6 Redwings and 3 Fieldfare
- heard the Chiffchaff in the SW area again today and hunted it down for confirmation: a Chiffchaff for sure. My first confirmed November record

- several Siskins all as individuals in NW and NE areas

Sunday, 11th

Quick update from Priorslee this rather wet morning - at least initially

Highlight - 3 species of wader!
- at least 140 Lapwings in the area: a few managed to settle on the SW grass before dog-walkers put them up
- 2 sightings of >150 Golden Plover over the fields to the E / NE. My first sighting this season
- 1 Snipe shot off from the W end
also
- Greylag Goose still present
- 84 Canada Geese at 06:30: 27 flew off
- drake Gadwall still present
- drake Shoveler still present though can hide in the NW reeds
- 15 Pochard (11 drakes) and 60 Tufted Ducks (32 drakes)
- Sparrowhawk and Buzzard over
- 2 Water Rails heard on NW area
- at least 6 Meadow Pipits in the long grass in the SW area
- 4 Redwings in the N side hawthorns: another 17 flying over
- 20 Fieldfare over
- 3 Goldcrests at least
- c.400 Starlings roosted
- 1 Siskin in the NE area

Saturday, 10th

This morning was exceptionally quiet
- drake Gadwall still present
- Wigeon gone
- drake Shoveler present at 06:45 but could not find it c.09:00
- 21 Starlings in the roost this morning
- almost no Wood Pigeons at all [had 1900 on Monday last!]

Present were
- 1 Greylag Goose with 84 Canada Geese
- 12 Pochard (8 drakes)
- 57 Tufted Ducks (31 drakes)
- c.80 Lapwing over
- 192 Coot
- >500 Black-headed Gulls by 09:00 (but none roosting)
- >800 Lesser Black-backed Gulls by 09:00
and
- 1 Chiffchaff still calling intermittently

Best was the 26 lb. Carp landed by one of the fishermen: quite a sight and the largest catch of the year

Great Black-backed Gull - single 1st winter bird amongst an average size pre roost gathering of gulls.
Gadwall - single male bird on N. side of lake.
Shoveler - single male on NE side.
Wigeon - two birds,male & female again on N.side.
