30th October - 450 to 500 Starlings left the roost, 11 Pochard, 47 Tufted Duck, pr of Ruddy Duck, 27 Mallard, 200+ Coot, a single Dunlin flew around the Lake but did not stop, 104 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 100 Black-headed Gulls. Kingfisher on the dam and a Buzzard was seen again, feeding on earthworms and possibly beetles. The bird scarer went off a huge flock of perhaps 2 to 3 thousand Woodpigeon took off from the surrounding fields. Redwing (62) outnumbered the Fieldfare (54), Song Thrushes (3) and Blackbirds (5) (Martin Adlam). 29th October - Buzzard feeding on earthworms, mobbed by Black-headed Gulls. A solitary Raven, 7 Pied Wagtails and 3 Grey Wagtail plus 11 Meadow Pipits and a Kingfisher. A huge flock of Woodpigeon passed overhead in the space of an hour there were at least 1700 heading south also good movement of Redwing (192) and Fieldfare (111) all heading south (Martin Adlam). 27th October - 4 Adult and 3 Juvenile Great Crested Grebe, 12 Mallard, 40 Tufted Duck, 16 Pochard and 2 Ruddy Duck. A Common Buzzard (very dark under-parts) and a Sparrowhawk. c.1500 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were joined by another party of c.1000 came in from over the M54. 1 Kingfisher on the lake and another along Wesley Brook. 2 Goldcrest, 42 Fieldfare overhead and the flock of Tits moving through the hedgerows included a Willow Tit and 14 Long-tailed Tits (Martin Adlam). 26th October - big passage of 778 Fieldfare and 199 Redwings most heading SW. Also there were a few flocks of Wood Pigeons going S, at least 800, 3 Goldcrest, a calling Chiffchaff and possible Firecrest?? 16 Pochard, 41Tufted Duck plus 3 Siskin, 18 Redpoll, a Sky Lark and a Meadow Pipit flying over. 275 Starlings left the reed-bed roost. 212 Coot, 7 Moorhens, c.250 Lesser Black-backed Gulls in the roost and c.475 Black-headed Gulls arrived from the west and another 90 Lesser Black-backed Gulls arrived (Ed Wilson). 22nd October –male Stonechat the west end, pair of Gadwall, two first-winter drake Shoveler, 14 Pochard and at least 44 Tufted Duck, Siskin and Redpoll in the trees in the NW area as well as flying around. C.350 Starlings in the roost, 20 Redwings, Sky Lark and Meadow Pipits overhead, 209 Coot, 120 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 350 Black-headed Gulls, two parties of Long-tailed Tits, also Coal Tit and Willow Tits, 4 Goldcrest, 2 Herons and a Kingfisher (Ed Wilson). 19th October – 2 Shoveler, 37 Redwing, 1 Fieldfare, 250+ Starling s in the roost, 11 Pochard, 48 Tufted Duck, 202 Coot, 5 Moorhen (Ed Wilson). 1st October – single Redwing and a flock of at least 90 Golden Plover seen in flight far to the east. 87 Greenfinches, 247 Rooks, 378 Jackdaws and 201 Wood Pigeons passing over. Several smallish parties of Lesser Black-backed Gulls totalling 63 birds, 7 Pied Wagtails and at least 2 Grey Wagtails, 90 Starlings, 2 Mistle Thrushes 2 Song Thrushes, 3 Chiffchaffs heard with 2 in intermittent song: and the Blackcap calling. Other birds of interest were Kingfisher,Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, 7 Meadow Pipit flying south, 3 Jays, Goldcrest, Great Spotted Woodpecker and 2 Willow Tits (Ed Wilson). |
