Habitat: Quite common place in areas of grassland, woodland and urban areas.

Further information:
This very distinctive fungus, normally appears around August­October. It can grow to a height of up to 30cm. When it first emerges it is an enclosed egg-shape with white shaggy fibres. As it ages, so it expands and together with its gills, blackens and liquefies. Edible when young.
